What’s Inside the Avocado ECO Mattress?

We got this Avocado ECO Mattress after a customer brought it in saying it felt like they were basically sleeping right on the springs. Not firm in a good way, not supportive in a comforting way, more like where did all the padding even go. So we did what we always do, grabbed tools, unzipped it, and tore the whole thing apart just to see what is actually going on inside

First look from the outside, it actually looks pretty clean and simple. The cover is organic cotton mixed with wool, and it has that faint earthy smell like this mattress is trying really hard to be natural and probably costs way more than you expect. It feels soft enough when you touch it but not really thick. More like a light layer than anything that would really cushion you. At this point you can already kind of guess where things are headed

Inside that is the comfort layer, a 2 inch slab of Dunlop latex around D65 density. This is where things start feeling very firm and straightforward. You press into it and it pushes back immediately. It rebounds fast and does not really sink in much. We kept pressing it a few times thinking okay where is the soft part but honestly there is not much of it

Below that is the main support system and it is all pocketed coils. Individually wrapped springs, tight layout, and reinforced edges they call quantum edge which sounds fancy but it is really just stronger sides so you do not feel like you are going to roll off. We tested coil gauge and did some weight loading and everything came out pretty consistent. Stable and supportive but not soft at all

Instead of glue holding everything together they use hog rings. It is very mechanical and kind of satisfying to look at. Everything is clipped and locked in place which is great for durability but it also makes the whole mattress feel more responsive. Maybe even a bit too responsive depending on what you like

So after taking it apart the customer complaint actually makes a lot of sense. This mattress is not trying to be plush or cloud like at all. It is more like here is support here is structure and that is basically it. If you like firm beds you will probably be fine with it. If you do not you might end up feeling like you had a very personal meeting with the springs overnight
