Raising rescue dogs is kind of amazing but also lowkey stressful most of the time. Malcolm figured that out fast with his two Tennessee, this super high-energy Pitbull mix who basically lives in “sprint mode,” and Kola, a Pitbull-Lab mix who’s more the curious explorer type, always wandering off sniffing everything. Totally different personalities, but both of them absolutely love being outside no matter what.
The problem is they live near busy roads, so every outdoor hangout used to feel like Malcolm was relaxing and panicking at the same time. Like the dogs are happy, but he’s constantly watching everything, ready to run after them if something goes wrong. It wasn’t really sustainable.
Then he started using the Halo Collar 5, and that’s when things started feeling a bit more under control.
What he noticed first was the tracking. Tennessee especially doesn’t really “move normally,” he just takes off sometimes like a rocket. Older trackers couldn’t really keep up, but this one feels way more accurate. The GPS updates super fast, so Malcolm says there’s basically no annoying delay—he can just open the app and see exactly where they are in real time, which honestly takes a lot of stress off when they’re near roads.
The training part is also a big deal for him. Since they’re rescues, he didn’t want anything harsh or scary. The system uses sounds and vibrations instead of punishment, kind of like gentle nudges to guide them back. Over time, the dogs actually started getting it, like “oh okay, don’t go past here,” without freaking out or getting scared, which was really important to him.
So yeah, overall it just made things easier. Still chaotic sometimes because… dogs, but way less panic. More freedom for them, and more peace of mind for Malcolm.
